Oaga Art Resort, a locally grown brand in the Maldives, is reaching out to artists in the region, inviting them to showcase their artwork in the Veyoge Gallery Villas. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2024, providing a unique chance for Maldivian artists to step into the world of hospitality. To make it easy for participants, the application process is online, welcoming creatives from all over the globe.
Debuting in January 2023, Oaga Art Resort has made a mark with its Veyoge Gallery Pool Villas, where art is seamlessly integrated into the luxurious space. Over the past year, nearly 40 local artists contributed around 160 pieces to adorn the walls, and now the resort is on the lookout for new talent to curate the collection for 2024.
Staying in a Veyoge Gallery Villa isn’t just a lavish escape; it’s an immersive art experience. Guests live surrounded by local artwork and have the chance to buy pieces, taking a slice of Maldivian creativity home.
“We’re grateful to provide a platform for local artists to showcase their work and connect with art lovers worldwide,” says the Oaga Art Resort team. “For every artwork displayed each night a guest stays, we contribute $1. It’s our way of appreciating the incredible talent in the Maldives.”
The curation responsibility falls on Suvāsthi Gallery, led by the in-house creative team. Nadee, the in-house curator, reflects on the challenges faced in pricing and sizing artwork for guest appeal. The open call addresses this with clear guidelines on dimensions and pricing strategies, ensuring artists receive optimal support for their submissions.
Suvāsthi Gallery hosts Caravan exhibitions in the resort regularly, allowing all island guests to enjoy the diverse collection. Local artists are also invited to stay on the island, fostering connections and enhancing the guest experience.
This open call welcomes both established and aspiring Maldivian artists to share their vision and be part of the Oaga Art Resort. Applications are accepted until January 31, 2024. All eligible artists are encouraged to submit their applications and secure their spot in the heart of Oaga Art Resort.
