First Lady Sajidha Mohamed Joins Kids’ Festival at AA. Ukulhas for World Children’s Day
On World Children’s Day, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed was part of the opening festivities at AA. Ukulhas, celebrating the joy of childhood. The event, put together by UNICEF Maldives and the Maldives Police Service, brought together various organizations to create a fun and child-friendly atmosphere.
Alongside Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu, the First Lady inaugurated the festival, a collaboration between UNICEF Maldives, the Ukulhas Council, and different government and non-government groups on Ukulhas Island. The lively festival featured stalls from the police, the children’s ombudsman’s office, and local government offices. Before the festival started, the First Lady also unveiled a special billboard for World Children’s Day, setting the tone for a day dedicated to the well-being of kids.
In her address, the First Lady stressed the importance of events focused on children, like Children’s Day celebrations. She talked about the issue of bullying and urged teachers, parents, and others to work together to address it. She also emphasized the role of those in authority in ensuring a safe environment for children.
During the event, a moment of silence was observed to remember the challenges faced by Palestinian children. The First Lady actively participated, exploring festival stalls and spending time with the children of Ukulhas Island, adding to the festive spirit.
The Children’s Day celebration aimed to raise awareness about child abuse and make the Maldives a safe place for children. The First Lady highlighted the need for everyone to stand against child abuse and ensure children have a happy and secure living environment.
In a special collaboration, the Maldives Police Service and UNICEF Maldives organized events from December 12 to December 21 on Ukulhas Island and AA Atoll. Activities included children’s art exhibitions, promoting child-friendly tourism, cleaning up the island, fun runs, and sea sports. World Children’s Day, celebrated on November 20 each year, took on a lively and meaningful vibe through these joint efforts.
