Government pays Overdue USD 6.5 Million to Fishermen

The government has decided to give out $6.5 million in pending payments to fishermen, and they’re planning to make the payment today. The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) expressed thanks to the fishermen for being patient and cooperative throughout this process.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who started the process of paying overdue amounts to fishermen when he took office, has now overseen the distribution of over $12.3 million to fishermen since the current government began. This decision shows the government’s commitment to addressing financial issues in the fishing industry and ensuring the well-being of those involved.

The release of payments is expected to bring significant relief to fishermen and contribute to the overall stability of the fishing sector. MIFCO, in recognizing the fishermen’s patience, emphasizes the joint efforts between the government and the fishing community to improve the industry’s sustainability.

This disbursement aligns with President Muizzu’s ongoing efforts to simplify financial processes and maintain transparency in governance.
