President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu shared the Maldives’ development vision during his speech at the Invest Maldives Forum in Fuzhou, China. Highlighting the significance of his first state visit abroad, he expressed joy over the strong presence of both Chinese and Maldivian businesses at the forum. Emphasizing the enduring relationship between the two countries, dating back to the ancient Maritime Silk Road, the President acknowledged China as a close ally and developmental partner.
President Muizzu noted the Maldives’ participation in President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative since 2014, resulting in substantial infrastructure projects. He outlined his vision for expanding the central airport and commercial port, expressing the government’s interest in exploring partnerships under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Touching upon the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed between China and the Maldives, the President highlighted its potential to enhance bilateral trade and investments. He specifically pointed out the FTA’s role in increasing the export of fish products to China, considering it a key priority.
Currently on a state visit to China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, the President and First Lady are accompanied by a high-level delegation. The visit underscores the longstanding and fruitful cooperation between the two nations in both government-to-government and business-to-business aspects.
