Sun Siyam Resorts in the Maldives has taken steps to support cancer awareness and research through a series of activities. On February 3rd and 4th, 2024, all five resorts affiliated with Sun Siyam joined hands with the Maldives Cancer Society to observe World Cancer Day. The events followed the global theme of the year, “Close the Care Gap.”
A prominent feature of these activities was a 5K running challenge held along the picturesque island shores, extending to nearby local islands like Dh. Bandidhoo in Dhaalu Atoll. The run wasn’t just a physical test but also an emotionally charged experience, reflecting unity and determination in the face of challenges. In some locations, the run ended with a Color Splash Party, symbolizing joy and hope and reinforcing the shared commitment to fighting cancer.
The participation in these events was widespread, involving various segments of the local community. This inclusive involvement underscored the joint dedication and unity towards a common goal. Sun Siyam Resorts, through its corporate sustainability and social responsibility arm, Sun Siyam Cares, demonstrated a deep commitment to not only raising cancer awareness but actively contributing to related initiatives.
An important aspect of the event was the chance for guests to contribute to the cause. By donating $10, guests could express their support, with all proceeds directed to the Maldives Cancer Society for ongoing research and cancer awareness activities.
Beyond this initiative, Sun Siyam Resorts has shown dedication to sustainable and responsible operations, not just in the Maldives but also in Sri Lanka. Through the Sun Siyam Cares program, the resorts prioritize sustainability, focusing on reducing energy and water use, managing waste, cutting down on plastic use, and supporting community development. They are also involved in renewable energy, conservation efforts, and preserving local heritage and cultural practices. These efforts form part of a broader strategy to minimize environmental impact, reduce the carbon footprint, and contribute positively to the socio-economic well-being of the communities they operate in.
This recent initiative highlights Sun Siyam Resorts’ steadfast commitment to making a positive impact, not just on their guests but on the global community.
