First Lady Sajida Mohamed delivered a video message at the 9th International Day of Women and Girls in Science Assembly. The video message was delivered at the closing ceremony of the 9th ‘International Day of Women and Girls in Science Assembly’. The assembly took place from February 8–9 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
In her video message, the First Lady stated that the Maldives is committed to promoting and prioritising women and girls in the field of science. She highlighted that the Government ardently advocates for increasing the number of women engaging in the information technology and digitalisation sectors. She further underscored the importance of providing women equal opportunities in the social, political, and economic sectors without gender-based discrimination.
The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is observed globally on February 11 every year, per the United Nations General Assembly Resolution (No: A/RES/70/212). The day aims to highlight the accomplishments of female scientists and advocate for gender equality.
