On November 28, 2023, an agreement was signed between the Maldives government and IUM to transform the island’s Islamic Center into a university learning center, aiming to expand tertiary education in Islam. The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Ali Zahir, Vice Chancellor of IUM, who highlighted the significance of establishing an IUM Learning Center in Ungoofaaru, the birthplace of the late Islamic scholar Dr. Afrasheem Ali. The event also marked a moment to reminisce about Dr. Afrasheem Ali’s contributions to IUM. The center is set to offer five courses under the January-Intake program.
