Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, the Minister of Climate, Environment, and Energy, officially inaugurated the third edition of the National Build Expo, a significant event in the Maldivian construction industry. The expo is being held at Central Park, Hulhumale’, from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM until January 14. This year’s expo serves as a crucial platform for the construction industry, aiming to increase the visibility of services and products available.
With over 70 participating companies, the expo showcases a diverse range of contributions to the construction sector, including services, innovative products, raw materials, and heavy machinery. It provides the public with a comprehensive understanding of the industry’s capabilities and advancements.
In his opening speech, Minister Thoriq highlighted the pivotal role of the construction sector in national development, encompassing both small-scale projects and major initiatives like airport development. He referenced recent data from the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), indicating a robust growth in the sector, with the development of 15 new resorts and 323 guesthouses. Additionally, the Ministry of Finance projects an expected annual growth of 7.7% in the construction industry over the next three years.
A central theme of Minister Thoriq’s address was the connection between construction and environmental sustainability. He emphasized the importance of adopting eco-friendly construction methods and integrating environmental considerations into building practices. To underscore this commitment, he highlighted the ministry’s ambitious project to plant five million trees over the next five years, emphasizing the dedication to preserving the delicate ecological balance of the Maldives.
