Hong Kong Airlines is bringing back its direct flights to the Maldives, re-establishing a vital connection that was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially introduced as chartered services, the airline began scheduled flights to the Maldives in 2018 but had to suspend operations due to the global health crisis.
The renewed service will consist of three weekly flights, linking Male and Hong Kong every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. This schedule provides convenient options for travelers. The flight details are as follows: departing from Hong Kong at 3:40 pm and arriving in Male at 7:35 pm. The return flight leaves Male at 9:20 pm and reaches Hong Kong at 6:35 am the following day.
This resumption is excellent news for the Maldives’ tourism industry, known for its beautiful beaches and luxury resorts. The first flight of the resumed service landed at Velana International Airport at 7:17 pm on Friday, symbolizing the strengthening ties between Hong Kong and the Maldives and promoting international travel and tourism.
Hong Kong Airlines’ decision to restart these flights reflects a growing confidence in the safety and demand for international travel as the world recovers from the pandemic. This route not only makes travel more accessible for tourists and business travelers but also plays a crucial role in the economic recovery efforts of both regions. The Maldives, heavily dependent on tourism, is poised to benefit significantly from increased accessibility and a potential influx of visitors from the East Asian market.
