Island Aviation Services Ltd (IASL) is set to broaden its flight offerings from Hanimaadhoo International Airport, planning routes to various cities in India. Currently, the airline exclusively operates flights to Trivandrum, India. In a recent statement to the state media, Ali Saleem, Deputy Managing Director of IASL, revealed the company’s intention to significantly expand flight operations from Hanimaadhoo, recognizing it as a highly sought-after destination.
Saleem detailed the company’s initiative not only to resume flights to Trivandrum but also to extend services to other prominent Indian cities. While still in the early stages, the expansion plan involves thorough research by IASL’s commercial team to identify potential routes. The process includes extensive consultations with tourism operators, business stakeholders, and the public to align expansion with market needs.
Emphasizing the strategic importance of connectivity, Saleem mentioned ongoing discussions about launching flights to areas such as Bangalore. He expressed optimism, stating, “We hope these discussions will be concluded positively.”
The announcement coincides with the temporary suspension of flights from Hanimaadhoo to Trivandrum due to ongoing development work at the airport. However, this suspension is anticipated to be short-term. With the imminent inauguration of a new segment of the airport’s runway, IASL expects a prompt resumption and expansion of its international flights.
As the expansion plan unfolds, IASL aims to transform Hanimaadhoo International Airport into a vibrant hub for regional travel, promising improved connectivity and travel options for passengers exploring India and beyond.
