The initial visitor to embrace the beauty of the Maldives in the new year, a British national named Benjamin Duncan Moore, received a warm welcome on Monday.
In the Maldives, it is a tradition to celebrate the first tourist passing through immigration on New Year’s Day as the inaugural arrival of the year, offering a heartfelt reception.
This year, the honor went to Benjamin Duncan Moore from the UK. Upon his arrival at Velana International Airport, he was warmly welcomed by Ibrahim Faisal, the Minister of Tourism, along with representatives from the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Immigration, and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
Reflecting on the tourism landscape, Minister Faisal shared that the Maldives had embraced 1.8 million tourists in the previous year. He expressed confidence in achieving the targeted goal of hosting two million tourists by the year 2024.
